Thrift Store Chic

Hello my loves!

Thrift store chic? Why not? Today we will talk about how to dress well, mixing pieces of your wardrobe with pieces that you can find in thrift stores. That’s what I did here. I’m wearing a skirt I bought at a thrift store. It was very well suited for the last days of Spring, when I had these pictures taken. So I mixed with basic pieces I had in my wardrobe.

I love thrift stores! When I lived in my hometown, São Paulo (in Brazil), I made regular visits to 2 of my favorite thrift stores: Capricho à Toa and Trash Chic, which in my opinion were the best of SP back then, and where I was able to get iconic pieces including Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Reinaldo Lourenço and Prada, among others.

Visiting thrift stores is like going on a treasure hunt. If you have patience and willingness, you will find famous brands and great quality. A valuable tip: resist the temptation to buy several basic pieces you can find in any store, and choose one with quality, style and brand that probably would be too expensive to buy if it were brand new. Another tip: if the piece is from a brand you do not know, pay attention to the quality of the fabric and seams, as well as the zipper trim, buttons, etc… and more importantly, think about how you will use this piece with everything you already have at home.

Of course there’s no need to dress with thrift store clothes from head to toe. The idea is to make a mix & match. If you get a good piece, full of personality, the best thing to do is use it with neutral complements, so it can be the main focus of your look. When we are wearing a Chanel skirt, for example, the quality of the finishing details, fabric texture and beauty of the piece, (Chanel, dear…) already draws attention to itself, and the good thing about it is that when you are wearing a Chanel skirt, no one will think that your top is from an affordable brand.

What I’m wearing:

  • Skirt: Thrift Store
  • Tank Top: Top Shop
  • Shoes: Dumond (Brasil)

I will list here my favorite thrift stores. If you have any suggestion about your favorite ones, let me know in the comments down bellow. I always like to know new places.

São Paulo: Capricho à Toa and Trash Chic

NYC: Vintage Thrift (they have everything, from clothing to home decor)

Los Angeles: Out of the Closet (super kitsch, with an 80s vibe, where you can find fun pieces from the 70s and 80s)

I hope you enjoyed the tips.
